Kala Namak is an Aromatic Rice cultivated since the Buddhist period (600 BC) and was granted geographical indication(GI)tag in 2012 by government of India. This Aromatic rice is rich in Iron and Zinc, therefore, having this rice is said to prevent diseases borne out of Iron and Zinc deficiencies.
Kala Namak has an amylose content of 20% which makes it fluffier and firm when cooked. It is most commonly used by Buddhists in their diet, which gives them healthy and longer life. It contains the antioxidant “anthocyanin” and prevents heart diseases and skin diseases. It finds its application in the case of Diabetes, BP and Alzheimer’s disease patients. GI (Glycemic Index) of Kala Namak is 50, low and Sugar-free.
